What is NS 9415 Certification?
NS 9415 is a standard that guides the site surveys, risk analysis, design, dimensioning, production, installation and operation of an aquaculture facility. Rather than establishing your own guidelines, it provides a proven framework that an organization can follow. In addition, NS 9415 defines the requirements for the components of a fish farm including:
- Net pens
- Floating collars
- Mooring equipment and connections
And, any extra equipment needed to run the operation effectively. Furthermore, it details how to operate marine fish farms so they are acceptably escape-proof.
The Importance Of NS 9415 Certification
Building to this standard means that the cage can withstand a level above the critical breakage point. Otherwise, it won’t be certified.
In fact, when companies follow this standard, it reduces the risk of technical failures and the resulting escapes. In a study conducted by the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, facilities that meet these standards experienced a significant decline in salmon and rainbow trout escapes.

When you achieve NS 9415 certification, it means that the designs and components are certified and the risk analysis simulations meet the guidelines for each specific site.
